I’ve bought it, poured it and it’s at the perfect temperature… now what?
‘Carne Salada’ Salad
Like the crushing of a beautiful blend, learning about wine with us is a marriage of history, geography and chemistry.
The beautiful marriage of the intricacies of wine is not something that should be chemically intervened with and commodified on a supermarket shelf.
The real beauty in the making of wine is the context. The people who make it, the landscapes that foster the grapes and the foods that compliment your glass.
The story of your wine should go far beyond the supermarket shelves and explore the stories of the families, the people and the places to get to the real soul of your wine.
I fell in love with the stories of wine when I bought a locally produced bottle of wine from my butchers.
I was living in Colli Euganei, Padova – an ex-rugby player- falling in love with Italy.
You can’t help but fall in love with Italy when you can buy a perfect wine pairing with your weekly meat shop.
This wine was like nothing I’d ever had before.
Produced in the hills of Padova by an effusive independent producer called Salvan. The wine was a 2008 Cabernet Franc and the grapes and been stomped on by foot. At first the thought of my wine previously being under foot made me a little queasy. Salvan put my mind at rest, letting me know that stomping grapes underfoot is perfectly sanitary, courtesy of the delicate balance of acid, sugar and alcohol that prohibits human pathogens from surviving in wine.
Crushing grapes by foot has been around for thousands of years. Sure, you could use a machine to do the job, but where is the history, the culture and quite honestly, where is the FUN in that?
We’ll go into more detail about wine stomping in later articles. Wine stomping has mostly been turned into local wine festivals but there are still a few boutique wineries keeping true to the old ways.
And let me tell you, the end product is sensational. At that point, I was hooked on Italian wine stories.
The other face behind Vinanima is Giovanni Bressanin. Giovanni has Italian wine in his veins. He grew up in the Colli Euganei on his Uncle’s Vineyard. His passion for life, and for wine is contagious. You can’t spend any time with this guy without him introducing you to something new and amazing. You feel like you really HAVE to share it with your friends.
Sharing bottles of local wines and the stories behind the, Giovanni and I decided that the world really needed to be at the table. Vinanima, wine with soul, invites you to our table. To taste
